What our dog grooming includes
Every full-service dog grooming session at Top Dog Pet Grooming Salon is built around your dog's breed, coat type and individual personality. We begin with a calm consultation — a quick look at your dog's coat, skin and general condition, and a chat about what you'd like from the groom. From there, we'll work through the full grooming process at a pace that suits your dog.
A typical full groom includes a thorough brush-out to remove loose coat and tangles, a breed-appropriate bath with premium shampoos, careful blow-drying, scissor and clipper work to your chosen style, nail trimming, and an ear clean. We finish with a final inspection — checking coat, nails, ears and skin before your dog goes home.
Why Bryndwr dog owners choose Top Dog
Christchurch has plenty of grooming options — but very few with nearly three decades of continuous, owner-operated service. Top Dog has been grooming dogs on Wairakei Road since 1996, which means the same experienced groomer is caring for your dog today as has been for years. Our regulars come back because they trust us: with their puppies' first groom, with their nervous rescues, with their senior pets who need a little extra patience.
That experience shows in the details. We know how a schnauzer's skirt should fall, how to manage a poodle's coat between full grooms, how to gently demat a long-coated breed without distress. We'll always tell you honestly if a coat is too matted to save, and we'll never push services your dog doesn't need.
Calm, unhurried grooming for every dog
Our home-style salon is deliberately quiet. There are no kennels full of barking dogs, no production-line rush. Your dog gets our full attention for their entire appointment — and if they need a break, they get one. That calm approach is why we're trusted with dogs other groomers have turned away: anxious rescues, dogs who've never been groomed before, senior pets who tire easily.
Breeds we groom regularly
Three decades in Christchurch means we've worked with almost every breed you'll find in the city. Some of the breeds we groom regularly include:
- Poodles, schnauzers, and other traditionally clipped breeds
- Cocker spaniels and other long-coated gun dogs
- Terriers of every shape — from Yorkies to Airedales
- Double-coated breeds like huskies, retrievers and shepherds (de-shed, not shaved)
- Designer and mixed breeds — we'll work with whatever coat your dog has
- Senior dogs and puppies — gentle, patient handling tailored to their stage of life
